To launch the PocketVT program as soon as your PocketPC handheld device boots up, a shortcut need to be created in the \Windows\Startup directory. Please follow these steps in order to do so: - Navigate to the directory \Program Files\Pragma, and select PocketVT.exe. You can use an ActiveSync connection and use explorer from the desktop to do this, or you can do it in the device itself using its file manager or explorer. - Do edit->copy - Navigate to \Windows\Startup directory, then do edit->Paste Shortcut - Rename the shortcut file, if you will, to something suitable, e.g., PocketVT.lnk. When the device is booted, this shortcut is read by the system, and the corresponding program is executed. Unfortunately, sometimes the programs speicfied by shortcuts in the \Windows\Startup directory are executed before the network drivers, specifically, the 802.11 drivers are fully loaded. So a connect attempt at this time to a remote host will fail. However, once the necessary drivers are fully loaded, a reconnect attempt will succeed. For this reason, two parameters need to be tweaked as appropriate. Some trial and error might be needed in order to get these values correct. They are MaxRetryCount and RetryDelayMS: MaxRetryCount: Maximum number of retry attempts to be made by PocketVT. The default is 0. So if the initial connection attempt fails, PocketVT will stop connect attempts. PocketVT will otherwise retry a maximum of MaxRetryCount before quitting. RetryDelayMS: The delay in between each reconnect attempt, in milliseconds. So, a five seconds delay can be specified as a value of 5000 (five thousand) for this parameter. The default is 0: no delay in between each retry. It is a good idea to specify a delay, since it lets the device complete loading the needed drivers in between retry attempts.
To launch the PocketVT program by pressing a button on your handheld device, do the following: 1. Go to: \Program Files\Pragma and copy the exe file "PocketVT.exe" 2. then go to: \Windows\Start Menu and do a "Paste Shortcut" of the file copied in step 1. 3. Rename this shortcut file to: PocketVT.lnk 4. Then go to Settings and tap on the "Buttons" icon. 5. Select on a button you would like to "program". 6. From drop down menu labelled "Assign a program", select the "PocketVT.lnk" file and then tap on the OK button.
To uninstall Pragma PocketVT, disconnect and exit the program. Then go to: Start Menu > Settings > System > Remove Programs. Select Pragma PocketVT from the list and click on the remove button. If you get an error message that says "Uninstall unsuccessful ...[filename] in use or in memory", then go to: Settings > System > Memory > Running Programs and click on the "Stop All" button. Then using the File Explorer, locate the [file] that was "in use" and rename it. Then perform a soft reset of your device. Refer your device's user manual for soft reset instructions. After performing the soft reset, go to: Start Menu > Settings > System > Remove Programs and run the uninstall program again. You should get an "uninstall complete" message.
