One of the most ubiquitous and popular of these hardware platforms is across a range of IBM servers, including the x3650 offering. Several years ago, the Pragma organization completed a major project to replace all of the billing systems at a Global 1000 enterprise energy company.

The bulk of their new systems ran on SAP software over SUSE Linux Enterprise server operating systems. By its very nature, this large system had many interfaces to sub systems both internal and external to the organization. In one of their subsidiaries, they were regulated to have and to use a legacy software called Dropchute to transfer files between various other organizations in their industry. Dropchute only runs on Windows operating systems and has to be hosted in a DMZ to be able to pass files over the Internet. The Global 1000 enterprise energy company had to find a piece of software that could securely move files from Linux to Windows and selected Pragma's server technologies for this purpose. The files are securely copied by shell scripts to Pragma and then the Dropchute software picks up the files received and transmits them across the Internet.

At this customer, the Pragma Server runs on a Windows 2003 standard server that is hosted on a IBM x3650 running with 4Gb of RAM and a local disk array. The x3650 was selected due to its many redundant components and its small size. Our customer uses the IBM x3650 model as their standard hardware for hosting services in a DMZ.

This implementation has resulted in significant business process use savings with quick and easy and efficient Windows shell file transfer and scripting. The integration of Pragma SSH and Telnet Server with SAP and their existing infrastructure went very smoothly and has worked flawlessly since installation.
