whois.exe

The whois program searches an internet directory for a valid domain name. The records hold information about the contact person for the domain, list of servers under the domain or list of host names.

A valid domain name can be a name ( such as "ASAP.COM" ) or a handle (such as "PREC-DOM"). To force a handle only search precede the handle with a exclamation point (!). To find a group or an organization, precede the argument with an asterisk (*). The membership (host) list will be displayed. Options for this command can start with a '/' or a '-'.
