InetD Services:

This lists all of the Services configured to use InetD. Add, delete, modify, copy, and rename services in this list. Copying a service will copy all parts of the service, including IP Security. The duplicate service will be disabled when first created.

InetD Status:

This indicates whether the InetD Service is currently running. Stop and start the InetD Service via the Stop/Start button. The InetD Status can also be viewed from a console window by typing NET START. This command will list all currently running services.

Record connection attempts to Event Log

With this box checked InetD will record an information event log entry for every connection attempt to a monitored port. This feature will give information about any attempted security attacks, including remote IP address.

Desktop Count

Enter the number of desktops InetD should create when it starts. Increasing this number will increase the number of remote sessions before a resource error occurs. InetD will create the configured number of non-interactive desktops. All configured processes, as well as any processes launched by those processes will run on these desktops. If an AllocConsole error occurs when a connection is made, this number should be increased.

In Windows 2003, the desktop count may not increase the number of sessions. This can be fixed by modifying the SharedSection value. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\SubSystems\Windows registry value. There is a substring value of SharedSection. For best results this value should be SharedSection=1024,3072,512. After changing the value, reboot the system.

If the problem persist change the SharedSection value to 1024,3072,1024, then reboot. This setting is system dependent, so some systems have better results with 512, while some perform better with 1024.
