Transfer Files

Files can be transferred in different ways. Files can be either copied to the server, uploaded, or retrieved from the server, downloaded. The remote server handles all permissions as to whether files can be copied, or remote directories can be accessed. The client handles the permissions of the local directories and files.

All downloads require a selection to be made on the remote host. If nothing is selected the Download options will be disabled. If a single item is selected and the "Download To" option is chosen, then a "Download to" dialog will open, so that the item can be renamed if desired. If multiple items are selected then a Choose Folder dialog will open for a destination folder to be chosen.

If a destination directory is not explicitly given in the download command, using the "Download To" command, then files will be stored in the directory assigned under the Options settings or the Site Manager Local Download Path setting. If a directory is not assigned at either of these locations, then the file will be saved at the root of the drive where FortressFX is run.

Upload/Download in the following ways:

1. Tool Bar: From the tool bar, click on the Download or Upload button to download or upload files, respectively.

2. File Menu: Click on the File Menu and select the Download or Upload option. To download to a specific directory select the Download option. Upload Folder can be used to upload a full folder.

3. Drag & Drop (Upload Only): Select the items to upload in Windows Explorer and drag the file over to the FortressFX program window. To upload the items into a particular directory, drag the file on top of the desired directory within the FortressFX directory tree.

4. Right Click: A right click will open a context menu that depends on the items selected. If nothing is selected then the menu will contain Upload and Upload To items. Anything copied will go to the folder currently viewed. If a file or multiple files are selected then upload and download options are available. If a folder is selected then upload and download options are available. Any files uploaded will be copied to the selected folder.
